the manifesto
We were told to calm down.
We were told to “just deal with it.”
We were told it was stress.
Or aging.
Or anxiety.
Or that we were being dramatic.
We were not dramatic.
We were underfunded.
Menopause affects over a billion women worldwide.
Yet in the United States, menopause research receives roughly $56 million out of a $45+ billion NIH budget.
That’s about 0.13%.
Less than a rounding error.
Meanwhile, erectile dysfunction startups have received over a billion dollars in funding in recent years.
This is not a war on men.
This is a wake-up call for women.
Because when half the population moves through a full-body neurological, hormonal, and metabolic transition — and receives crumbs of research funding — that is not oversight.
That is systemic neglect.
We were not crazy.
We were navigating perimenopause without a roadmap.
We were navigating brain fog without language.
We were navigating anxiety without context.
We were navigating insomnia, joint pain, rage, grief, and identity collapse — while being told our labs were “normal.”
We were told menopause is decline.
We were told youth is value.
We were told fertility is worth.
And when fertility ended, we were expected to shrink.
No more.
The Not Crazy Movement rejects:
The medical dismissal.
The cultural invisibility.
The research gap.
The silence passed from mother to daughter.
We reject the idea that midlife is irrelevance.
We reject the narrative that aging is failure.
We reject the quiet gaslighting of women in exam rooms.
We demand:
Research equity.
Medical education reform.
Cultural reframing.
Open conversation.
Funding proportional to impact.
Respect proportional to experience.
We believe:
Menopause is not a malfunction.
It is a transition.
Midlife is not a breakdown.
It is a power surge.
Post-reproductive women are not obsolete.
They are essential.
Evolution designed women to live decades beyond fertility for a reason.
Wisdom.
Leadership.
Stability.
Cultural continuity.
We are not disappearing.
We are becoming.
We are the generation that names the funding disparity.
We are the generation that stops whispering about hot flashes.
We are the generation that refuses to let our daughters sit on crinkly exam tables wondering if they are broken.
We are not broken.
We are under-researched.
And we are done accepting it.
We will speak.
We will educate.
We will gather.
We will build community.
We will demand better.
This is not just about hormones.
This is about equity.
This is about power.
This is about refusing to disappear at 50.
This is The Not Crazy Movement.
And we are NOT asking for permission.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Not Crazy Movement is a community and advocacy platform founded by Delaney Cassidy for women who are done being dismissed, doubted, and underserved by a medical system that was never built with them in mind. It's part education, part sisterhood, and part productive rage — channeled into change.
-
Neither. This movement is pro-women and pro-science. The funding disparities we highlight are not about demonizing men's health — of course ED matters to the men experiencing it. This is about asking a simple question: why does women's suffering consistently count less? We want better research, better training, and better care for everyone — starting with the half of the population that has been systematically underserved.
